Featured in The New York Times!
One of the most amazing moments in my research career was seeing our work featured in The New York Times' Trilobites science section. The article, titled “Devoted Dads of the Amphibian World”, highlights our discoveries about male parental care in the smooth guardian frog of Borneo (Limnonectes palavanensis).
The piece shines a spotlight on how males of this species take on the full responsibility of guarding and caring for their developing offspring—sometimes for weeks, without feeding—challenging long-held assumptions about parenting roles in amphibians.
This kind of public recognition is deeply gratifying, not only because it brings visibility to our science, but also because it invites broader audiences to appreciate the rich and diverse behaviors found in overlooked species like frogs.
We’re proud to share this story with the world and grateful to Roberta Kwok for writing this piece!
