Faithful frog fathers featured by KU News and more!
Our research on the smooth guardian frog (Limnonectes palavanensis) was featured in KU News, highlighting the remarkable paternal behavior of this Bornean species. Male frogs of L. palavanensis are dedicated caregivers: they stay with their clutch for extended periods, sometimes without feeding, before transporting their tadpoles on their back to find a pool of water on the forest floor where they can finish their development. All of this to ensure the survival of their offspring.
This work reveals just how diverse and complex amphibian parental strategies can be, pushing the boundaries of what we know about care in vertebrates.
In addition to KU News, this research was also highlighted in Phys.org, ScienceDaily, and EurekAlert!|AAAS, emphasizing the importance and fascinating behavior of this understudied species.
