Two surnames, no hyphen: Claiming my identity as a Latin American scientist
When citing my work, my last name should be written as Goyes Vallejos without a hyphen, not Vallejos. In many Latin American cultures, including mine, it is customary to have two last names. While I fully respect the choices of those who hyphenate or use a single last name for their publications, I choose to maintain my heritage in the form of my name. I believe that insisting on presenting our names as we choose is a fundamental aspect of honoring our identities. Let us embrace diversity and uphold the significance of our names in representing who we are.
