Connecting with 6th Graders through Skype a Scientist!

Winchester, MA

In March 2021, I had the joy of participating in Skype a Scientist, an educational nonprofit that connects scientists with classrooms around the world. Through this program, I was matched with Ms. Haddadin’s 6th grade science class at McCall Middle School in Winchester, MA. I was thrilled to be invited to speak to about 100 students and share my love of frogs.

During our virtual session, we explored what frogs are, where they live, how they communicate (yes, some females call too!), and how a few species even care for their babies. The students were incredibly engaged and full of great questions.

After the talk, the students sent me digital thank-you cards that completely made my week. Their thoughtful notes and reflections showed just how much they connected with the material and with frogs!

Huge thanks to Ms. Haddadin and her students for the warm welcome and the opportunity to share science with such a curious and thoughtful group.
